PurpleRubberBand Spotlight: Sister Speak
Thursday, September 9, 2010
I didn’t even know what I was getting myself into. I was spending my birthday weekend in Portland, Maine with family and friends when I found myself downtown at a wine bar and lounge named Slainte. As we’re parking I find out the people I’m rolling with are close friends with the band playing at the lounge. The band: Sister Speak.
Now, I love surprises. And I love acoustic music. So being surprised by some amazing acoustic music was prime time glory for me. I sat in the chair with the best view from the first song to the last song and soaked it all in.
Sister Speak is a duo comprised of Sherri-Anne and Samantha Cathcart. The two have individually released albums but now primarily perform together as Sister Speak. Their most recent endeavor has been their North America Tour. As part of the tour they have upcoming shows in September and October in Florida, Tennessee and California.
I was mesmerized during their performance as their lyrics came from some raw place within their hearts and their two individual voices collided and embraced to deliver one pure sound.
The sound was delicate and simultaneously profound. To try to explain how powerful their music is would be futile. Below is a glimpse into my night as Sister Speak performs their song “Sweetest Friend”:
